You lose your money and you feel sad and disappointed. You get money and you feel good and happy. These external events are the triggers that evoke certain emotions but not the real cause of your emotions.
It rains and you feel sad because you are supposed to go to picnic. The rain is the trigger. The real cause of the emotion is your resistance toward the rain. Once you accept the weather as it is, there is no resistance and there is no sadness.
The first step is to fully understand that your emotions are caused by your thoughts not by the external events. If certain emotion arises, it is better to be aware of it objectively. Don't be the emotion. Observe it.
